MEN TO MATCH MY MOUNTAINS
I Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.
Intro: This is a line from ‘The Coming American’ by Sam Walter Foss.
“Bring me men to match my mountains, bring me men to match my plains; men with empire in their purpose and new eras in their brains.”
It is not a question of how well we have met the challenges of the past. Elijah hid from Jezebel almost immediately after his greatest victory;
Nor is it a question of how many will stand with us. God’s truth is not decided by a majority vote!;
Nor is it a question of how popular is this mountain to climb.
WE NEED TO MATCH GOD’S MOUNTAINS!
I. The Mountain of Faith In Action: Mount Moriah. (Gen. 22:1-10) Will Abraham really go through with it? Maybe he would have stopped with just piercing his son’s skin.
Run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes? If it is God’s banner then fly it proudly whether ANYONE salutes!
II The Mountain of Righteous Demands: Mount Sinai (Exo 19:20 - 20:17) Just because the Law was nailed to the cross doesn’t mean that God has leveled this mountain! Jesus raised it higher! (Mat 5:17 - 6:33)
III The Mount of Total Commitment: Mount Nebo (Deut 32:49-52)
Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

Moses’ death at this time was both punishment and a blessing. He didn’t set foot in the land but he didn’t have to see Israel forsake God either! You might have to give up something to commit your life to God, but you will escape something too.
IV. The Mount of Temptation ('Though in the wilderness)
IV. The Mount of Temptation ('Though in the wilderness)
(Mat 4:1-11)
Jesus, the man, was at his weakest, having fasted for forty days, yet he resisted the devil with the word of God. Because of this we have open access to our heavenly Father.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Jas. 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
I Jno 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
V. The Mount of Compassion: (Mat 15:29-32)
The secret of making it work:
Mat 15:36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Use what He has placed in your hand. It is true that a starving man probably wouldn’t listen to a fat Christian, but remember his soul is MORE important!
VI. The Mountain of Strong Teaching. (John 6:3-66)
Those who went away didn’t have to listen to that ‘hide-bustin’ teaching anymore - but - they didn’t get any more food either!
VII The Mountain of Future Hope.
Zech 14:4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.

Ezekiel’s wheeled throne of Glory (Ezekiel 1:1-28)
Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
