ARMED FORCES DAY

Saturday, May 19 has been designated as a time to honor those in the military service of our nation. I, for one, need neither special day nor special urging to remember and to pray for those who serve. May God watch over each of them and bring them home safely

However, it is not just for those who wear the uniform that I am thankful. The spouses and children are also heroes! This was brought home to me as I pastored a Church in a military town some years ago. I saw the families as they coped with all manner of crises. I watched helplessly, as service men were deployed leaving their wives to sell property, oversee moving and safely get the children across country and settled at the next duty-station while their husbands were out of the country.

It is this kind of quiet heroism, as well as the faithful service on the field of battle, that causes me to say, “Thank God for those who serve and for those who stand beside those who wear the uniform.

May God watch over all of you and bring you all safely together again!
